some thoughts from today…

Starbucks on University is closing definitely at the beginning of March.
Today, I saw a lady changing a tire with three people waiting… inside the car.
A man blew his horn and gave me two thumbs up for driving the Tercel… aka Lertola.
My professor confessed to me that he has a problem with rules because they limit ideas
I wore short sleeves today… and it felt great outside!
I found out that Target has an “empowerment” rule… it’s worth checking out.
Lastly, I saw a lot of high school students walking on the sidewalk in Gardendale… it was weird.

is Obama a pop icon?
the other day I saw a very decorated and busy, black jean jacket… complete with a large signature, trimmed in gold, and accented with shiny jewels; it could have easily passed as a piece of Sean John, SouthPole, or Michael Jordan clothing. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large, two-color, Obama head stretching from one shoulder to the other. I really wasn’t sure what to think of that kind of image at first. it doesn’t compare to the extensive Obama clothing collections one can find all over the internet. Ebony magazine even chose him as one of the “Top 25 Coolest Brothers of All Time.” Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z and Marvin Gaye made the list as well. should Obama be a pop icon? is it a healthy perspective/attitude or not?
warriors, fighters, soldiers, etc….

I’m careful to make this post and I preface it by acknowledging the seriousness of Christians’ roles and duties.
so I was switching between a few radio stations the other day, and I came across one station with shouting and battle cries… “we were made for war” to be exact. Sure enough, I found out it was some kind of War Cry part of the local Christian radio station’s show. The image of camouflage, battle cries, shouting, and believers marching to war is somewhat troubling. These kinds of images make me think of certain albums and movies. is it correct for Christians to take on such aggressive, warlike positions? I know that “war,” “warrior,” etc. show up many times in the Bible, but I’m curious what they have to do with Christian’s specific roles in culture?

I’ve been at Starbucks on University Blvd. for a while now, and I wanted to post some of the random/interesting people that I have caffeinated. I’ve turned in my two weeks notice, and I will have somewhat of a normal schedule after a few more days of work. It’s been a great learning experience with a lot of free coffee, but it’s time to pursue other passions and opportunities.
1. Two Photographers from Wisconsin; they took my portrait.
2. Producer of A&E’s The First 48 Birmingham episodes
3. A lot of Rutgers fans
4. An Englishman from Birmingham… the other one.
5. The lion tamer from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey
