guitar praise…

August 27, 2008

oh wow… where to begin?  so firstly, why?  I would love to meet the guy that watched his teenage son shred on Sweet Child o’ Mine and think, “Hey, I think that song is the devil… let’s make that game for Christians.”  Or maybe, “I wish they could pick better songs for this game… I mean, have they even heard Israel and New Breed?”  sure, Christian kids just have to be able to jam out to “Lifesong” by Casting Crowns or DC Talk’s “Jesus Freak,” but this product totally validates the idea that Christians simply follow whatever “the world” is doing.  the time it was released only adds to the humor of it; Guitar Hero was originally released in November 2005… it only took our creative minds to produce this Chirstian version almost three years later.  ”Hey Johnny, I’ve really been feeling guilty about playing “Smoke On the Water” lately… I really wish they would come out with a Christian version of Guitar Hero!” this is only a small part of a much larger argument, but is it right for Christians to sit back and wait on the next popular item to replicate and offer to Christians?  I’m sorry if this post totally bashes Digital Praise’s attempt to give Christian kids an alternative to their favorite game… I’m sure this product will be useful somewhere in some way.

my sheet…

August 23, 2008

The hole in my sheet

so the last few nights I have been finding my foot in some foreign place while sleeping.  the foreign place has become progressively larger each night so being a rainy Saturday, I decided to take control of this strange phenomenon.  I pulled back the covers to find this large hole in my sheet!  because of my experience and exposure to the local church for most of my life, I instantly had Christmas plays on my mind.  there is no need to let such a beautiful piece of material go to waste; I made a Christmas play costume out of it (it’s important to note that this could easily be used as an Easter costume as well).  the resourceful churchgoer strikes again…

camp is finished…

August 16, 2008

so I am officially done with camp this summer!  the question is will I be back next year with Student Life?  hmmm, probably not the best time to answer that question after just doing 13 camps in 5 different cities with over 150 different sessions, not to mention rehearsals and training weeks… yikes.  all in all, it was a terrific summer unlike any other… some good, some bad… mostly good though.  the techie Free Time Option was definitely one of the best; thanks Jimmy for your participation in the commercial.  we had unbelievable student talent shows; people really do show up to give their own personal performance of the “Lifehouse skit” every single camp. I am grateful to have worked with some really awesome production guys and gal.  may the Blue Legacy live…

nyc…

August 11, 2008

so we’re in Pennsylvania (not too far outside of New York City) this week doing the very last camp of the summer… wow.  we had the chance to go into the city for a day; it was very motivating to be in the real world for awhile since this is our 13th camp!  there is just something about the yellow cabs, monstrous buildings, and unique shops in the Big Apple.  it was awesome counting over 20 Starbucks locations, listening to a jazz band in the Park, riding the the glass elevator in the Fifth Avenue Apple Store, and even watching the Big Piano show in FAO Schwarz… it’s cool to be one of the millions of tourists that visits every year.  thanks Marcus Clement for the pictures.
